As I see it, my value is not in where I stand on standards change, but where I sit. I’m in a unique position. I am a Principal at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants – and I am not a standard-setter. In fact, before I joined the CICA, I had little reason to give standard-setting much thought. Like most CAs, my career began in audit. After moving into industry, I had the privilege to lead a variety of challenging organizational change projects. I have held senior financial and operational roles in both private and public companies, and have spent some time in the public sector as well. Change motivates me. Since 2007, I have been the Project Leader for the CICA’s implementation support strategy on the transition to IFRS and the new auditing standards. I’ve gained insights into the standard-setting environment, working closely with standards experts from the AcSB, AASB, the CICA, accounting firms, and industry. I respect the standard-setting process and the need for change. At the same time, I understand the pressures it causes, particularly in the current economic environment. It is my priority to help you navigate through this critical time of changing Canadian standards. |
