Join author, CA·IT Dwayne Bragonier as he discusses his featured article published in September's CAmagazine ("Still foggy on cloud computing?" September 2011 p.26).

In the words of Editor Okey Chigbo:
"When someone talks about joining "the cloud" are you puzzled?  If you have seen ads about the cloud on television, you will know that it has something to do with computers, but what?  Is it useful for CAs?  Dwayne answers all the questions a CA might have about the cloud:  What it is?,  What it does and what it means for the future.

Bragonier believes the cloud is a major step in the evolution of the Internet and compares it to the moment in history when electricity became available to the mass market.

Find out in this fascinating piece how CAs can take advantage of the cloud."

Taking Meetings from Okay To Great
Date : September 26th, 2011
Time: 12:30 PM ET

Business success is closely related to meeting success. When meetings are skillfully planned, conducted, documented and evaluated, the outcomes are superior decisions, accompanied by a full understanding of the decision(s), buy-in and effective implementation. In 2005, Microsoft conducted an online survey of 38,000 people and discovered that workers average only three productive days per week. The main culprit: unproductive meetings.

Effective, efficient and productive meetings are a major communication asset required for an organization to achieve its mission and goals. Leading more effective meetings is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity.

Good meeting skills are no longer optional - they are a core competency for everyone who leads a meeting or is involved in a meeting. Not surprisingly then, meeting facilitation has been called the core competency of the 21st Century. It is the "strategic" skill most directly linked to the success of the team and organization.

Let HELEN J. WYTHE & Associates help you take the "drear" out of the dreary meetings you attend. This session will introduce you to the basics that every meeting requires in order to have a chance at being effective, efficient and productive.

Estate Planning
Date: November 10th, 2009
Time: 12:30 pm ET

Estate planning can be defined as the process of accumulating, managing and disposing of assets to maximize the goals of the owner.  This involves elements of wealth and risk management, legal protections and tax efficiencies.

Who needs estate planning?  Everyone does.  Some of the important goals of estate planning include:

  • providing the safest personal and financial environment for the owner and his or her family;
  • paying the least amount of tax;
  • avoiding or minimizing the probate process; and
  • ensuring the greatest amount of the estate passes to the intended beneficiaries.

In this webinar, authors of the Estate Planning Toolkit for Business Owners published by the CICA will present some of the fundamental aspects of estate planning to help business owners balance the "hard" financial and tax goals with the "soft" family and personal issues.  This webinar will provide a good introduction to the topic for CAs who own their own business or who are considering assisting clients with succession planning.  The content will not be overly technical and CAs are welcome to invite clients to attend this webinar.  CAs successfully completing the quiz following the webinar can also earn CPD credit.

Specific topics covered in the webinar will include:

  • Using inheritance trusts to reduce beneficiary tax through income splitting
  • Creative use of an estate freeze with a family trust
  • Identifying probate avoidance techniques – and red flagging techniques to avoid!
