IFRS learning without leaving your office. Chartered Accountants of Canada offer a range of online courses and webinars.

Intro to IFRS - New online course (FREE) (More)

A new CICA online course offers a one-hour overview on International Financial Reporting Standards.  Introduction to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)” introduces you to the basic presentation and structure of IFRS financial statements, provides a high-level overview of some of the key standards, identifies selected IFRS accounting issues within the financial statements, and provides information on IFRS resources, tools and education available.

The course is available free of charge.  CAs earn one-hour CPD credit upon successful completion of the course quiz.

With oversight responsibility for MD&A disclosures related to implementation planning and progress, and the impact of IFRS on financial reporting, the Audit Committee has a significant role to play. In this session, Bev Briscoe provides advice on what audit committees will be expecting with respect to the IFRS transition.

Transition to IFRSs, Cameron McInnis (More)

In this 16-minute video Cameron McInnis, the OSC’s Chief Accountant, shares his perspectives on Canada’s transition from Canadian GAAP to IFRSs. Cameron provides his insights on topics such as: selection of accounting policies, compliance/ enforcement under IFRSs, private company considerations, preparedness of Canadian companies, MD&A disclosure expectations and the use of US GAAP.

Development of Canadian GAAP– Module 1 and Module 2 (More)

During this time of unprecedented change in accounting standards, the CICA has released a two-part video series that discusses the development of Canadian GAAP. The videos feature Trish O’Malley, Chair of the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) and Paul Cherry, former AcSB Chair. Module 1 provides an overview of how Canadian standards have evolved since the inception of the CICA Handbook – Accounting in 1967. Module 2 discusses who sets Canadian standards.
