Path to CMC for CAs

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) and the Canadian Association of Management Consultants (CMC) have signed an agreement for co-operation between the two professions.

CAs are granted equivalency in the six functional areas required by CMC. Any CA who wishes to be come a CMC must have 3,600 hours of consulting-related experience in the previous three years and submit an application and summaries of five consulting engagements to the CMC. In addition, candidates must complete CMCs other education and evaluation requirements.

The agreement also anticipates that:
  • educational and knowledge enhancement opportunities in the field of management consulting will increase;
  • individual CAs and CMCs will work together on joint initiatives;
  • and when appropriate, representatives of the two professions will make joint submissions to government and other public and private institutions.
