Director – Tax

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), together with the provincial, territorial and Bermuda Institutes/Ordre of Chartered Accountants, represents a membership of approximately 75,000 CAs and 12,000 students in Canada and Bermuda. The CICA conducts research into current business issues and supports the setting of accounting, auditing and assurance standards for business, not-for-profit organizations and government. It issues guidance on control and governance, publishes professional literature, develops continuing education programs and represents the CA profession nationally and internationally.


In this newly created role, the Director – Tax provides leadership to the CICA Tax Education Strategy, monitoring the needs of CAs working in tax and identifying current, emerging and long term trends in the domestic and international business communities that will affect them.  In addition, the Director is responsible for nurturing and maintaining strategic alliances with other professional bodies and organizations.


The Director has overall responsibility for:

  • new and existing tax education development and management
  • business development, including strategic alliances
  • operations and long term planning

In addition to the above, the Director will assume the role of National Practice Area Leader – Tax at CICA, and be responsible for leading the CICA’s efforts and effectively executing strategy in the area of Tax, one of 11 National Practice Areas of CICA activities.


The Director – Tax will be a Chartered Accountant with at least 10 years of progressive experience as a tax professional, a significant portion of which will have been spent in a large public accounting firm setting. 

The Director – Tax must have completed the CICA In-depth Tax Course (mandatory), and CICA Advanced Tax Courses (preferred), and have deep technical knowledge of Canadian and International Taxation.

Demonstrated strength in leadership, consensus building and facilitation skills are essential.

Knowledge and experience in the areas of change management, organizational behavior and management within a matrix management environment are critical.
