Volunteer Central

The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) owes much of its success in delivering on its mission to the continued commitment of its volunteers.

Kevin Dancey, FCA, President and CEO, CICA

“Each year some 600 dedicated volunteers contribute an enormous amount of time, energy and expertise to the CICA on a wide range of strategically important projects and activities.  The CICA and the entire CA profession owe them a huge debt of gratitude.”

Kevin Dancey, FCPA, FCA, President and CEO, CPA Canada

About our volunteers

Volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, including public practice, industry, government and crown corporations, education, professional firms and not-for-profit organizations. Many of those who volunteer are broadly experienced professionals and are often recognized experts in their fields.

Volunteering for the CICA

Volunteers enjoy a unique opportunity to network with peers while giving back to the CA profession by working on various challenging and worthwhile projects.

Participation entails a responsibility to assist in the achievement of the project’s objectives through preparation for and attendance at meetings and through active participation in the group’s deliberations.

Code of Conduct

Prior to working with, or on behalf of the CICA in any capacity, each volunteer must sign the Code of Conduct.

Rewards of volunteering

From time to time, the CICA conducts surveys of its volunteers to seek their views on their experiences serving on CICA boards, committees and task forces. The vast majority of them say that their most important reward for dedicating time and expertise as a volunteer is a high degree of personal satisfaction – in fact, on the last survey, 77 percent of our volunteers told us they would volunteer again! While clearly the CICA and the entire CA profession benefit from the contribution of our volunteers, it is reassuring to know that the experience is rewarding for them as well.
